Whether they are opening for Shaggy, playing at the Surf World Cup at Lago di Garda, or grooving deep in the Paris beat scene at Fleche d’Or-- When the beNUTS play their Power-Ska, they bring the noise.
“Sex Sells” (Wolverine Records/ Soulfood Distribution) is the title of the new album, the fourth the beNUTS have produced. Not only the album is new, with the addition of singer and actor Robert Johnson the beNUTS have strengthened their line up with reinforcements all the way from Texas.
The beNUTS take traditional Ska and season it with Reggae, Rocksteady and Punk. Then they pressure cook it with infectious beats and dish it out with Johnson’s powerful voice. “Sex sells” runs the lyrical gauntlet, telling stories of lost friendship (“Skanking Lifetime”), uncommon recipes (“La Vodka dans le micro-onde“) and naturally, Sex (“3 condoms”). The album is parts rock, punk and traditional Jamaican Ska, finished with refined brass arrangements and the charismatic voice of the new frontman. As always, many languages are represented in lyrics with sharp content and a clear message.
With this new album the beNUTS have recorded more than 70 songs and appeared on 25 compilations. They have appeared at over 300 concerts Europe-wide and always brought the hammer down, bringing love to the stage and sweat to the dancehall.
